In a lot of respects the American truck consumer got the short end of the stick when every American manufacturer bailed on the midsize truck segment 20 years ago.
In that time if you wanted a truck design that catered to hauling toys, getting into the off-road scene, or just latching onto a truck that didn’t swallow tons of garage space as well as cargo, cool as that is, you had little choice but to go to the import market or bite the bullet and buy the full size Chevrolet Silverado.
While this was going on, people who clamored for an American branded middle ground truck were left licking their chops as they watched the rest of the world get the great little Chevrolet S10 from GM. Remember the S10? We had those.
Envious, and from afar, we watched, wanted, and waited.
With the Chevy Colorado, the wait is over.
Of course, the Silverado is bigger
Let’s be clear here, you may not want a Chevy Colorado. Simply put, there are people who simply need a full size truck like the Chevy Silverado. Period.
The Chevrolet Silverado is all truck, it has more, and bigger engine options, it has bigger axles, it has bigger running gear, bigger suspension, and a bigger payload and towing capacity when properly equipped. The fact of the matter is that these things may be important enough for you that owning anything except a full-size truck isn’t an option.
The Colorado doesn’t need to be any of that.
The Tacoma killer
The Chevrolet Colorado is the Nissan Frontier and Toyota Tacoma killer from GM. It is launched into a segment of buyers that do things that look cool in a small, tough looking truck. The truck has been designed to be comfortable in any environment, whether that is on city streets, heading out to rough it on a camping adventure, or hauling toys and gear to points unknown with friends to pound said toys into the ground.
It’s about fun. The Chevy Colorado has to be about being fun while hammering out some solid utility in hauling and towing. It’s a solid truck that can hit the trails, the street, and double as personal transportation without feeling like a truck.
That’s what the Colorado has to do, and it does these things well.
It might be smaller, but it’s still a truck
Like the full sized Silverado, the Colorado body sits on a fully boxed frame and offers you a bed that’s configurable with two tier loading and plenty of tie downs to keep your cargo straight and tight.
Like the full sized Silverado, the Colorado offers optional 4-wheel drive, a couple of rear axle combinations, a couple of good engine options, and a manual or automatic transmission. Unlike the Silverado, the Colorado doesn’t offer a V8, doesn’t have a max towing capacity of 12,000 lbs, and it isn’t as big of a footprint so you won’t have as much cargo space. But for what the Colorado doesn’t have, every inch of it is still a quality Chevrolet truck.
Chevrolet through and through
Technologically, both trucks offer you Chevrolet MyLink® technology, the full complement of standard safety features and safety options, the refined ride that Chevrolet has come to be known for in trucks, and a comfort factor that should make you happy that you picked either one. Beyond the obvious advantage, or disadvantage of owning big, or small, depending on your point of view, the fact of the matter is that whether you want, or need, to own the Colorado or the Silverado is very nearly a question of lifestyle.
You’re a winner with either choice
Either of these two trucks is a completely competent vehicle choice, and which one you choose is something we would like to invite you to the dealership for and talk with one of our sales team.
