Pretty much anybody who’s interested in American muscle cars knows someone who got a sweet deal on a vintage piece of Americana. You know, the guy with the sweet ’68 Chevelle or ’63 Split Window Vette sitting in the garage.
They pamper, primp, polish, and occasionally drive them, but usually the real gold is in the story they tell about where they got the car.
From ‘found it in an old barn and the farmer didn’t know what he had’ to ‘an old granny had it in her garage, her hubby really liked it’ stories you can sit in rapt attention as the owners ramble on. But the story you rarely hear is ‘I bought it new from the dealer’. That’s because you really don’t know what’s destined to become a classic.
Unless of course you have a crystal ball or know what the Hagerty Insurance Company is.
Who, or what is Hagerty?
Hagerty is an insurance company that specializes in insuring classic cars, particularly classic American cars. They’ve got a whole staff of experts that do nothing except consider how valuable old muscle cars and old classics are worth.
Fair enough you say, but what does that have to do with the guy with the classic muscle car in his garage? Or me for that matter?
Well, Hagerty also have their experts come out with an annual list of cars they think are destined to be classic collectables in the future. And these guys are kind of good at this sort of thing.
See the light yet?
If you want the inside scoop on next decade’s collectables and if you know the Hagerty list every year, then you know what’s going to be collectable, or at least what has a good chance of it. Guess what – this year two current run GM vehicles made the list.
How does a car make the list
To make the “Hagerty Hot List” for 2015, a car has to meet a few qualifications. Namely: It must have been a production model during the model year. It must have an MSRP of less than $100,000. Additionally, they like to give the thumbs up to cars that haven’t been on the list before, whenever that’s possible.
So, what two GM cars made the list?
Two sweet machines that you can get your hands on right now.
The 2015 Chevrolet Z/28 Camaro
With a sticker price of $75,000 the Z/28 is “The ultimate road course ready Camaro.” With a horsepower rating of 505hp emanating from a LS7 V8 producing a jaw rattling 481lb-ft of torque, the Chevrolet marketing guys let the Chevrolet engineer guys create a monster that loves to come out and play. Like Z/28’s of the past, this modern day version isn’t anything but a track ready racer that’s bare bones and making no apologies about it. View the inventory here.
The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06
The sticker in the window says $78,995 for the Z06, and that makes for some serious bang for the buck. Bucking on the global super car stage with some credentials that make it a serious contender, the Z06 is an absolute bargain when you consider the cars it can compete against. Its resume is already impressive and for a car below the $100,000 barrier to be in SuperCar territory is insane. But it’s true. View the inventory here.
