American’s love muscle cars, and there’s no better example of an American muscle machine than the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro. With more options, tighter handling, lighter weight, and superior suspension, this car is more than capable of dominating any Euro-sport on the road.
Since the re-launch of the Camaro platform a few years back the car has done nothing but get better. It is the reason that the Mustang, Challenger, and Charger are better cars, because GM unleashed their engineering team and let them build a car that’s destined to become your grand-kid generation’s go-to classic car.
Tight, quick, and fast, the 2016 Camaro is a star-fighter waiting for a pilot. Maybe that’s you.
Features
It’s a lighter, tighter, leaner, meaner Camaro in 2016.
Shedding over 200lbs in curb weight, the platform is making better use of the weight to horsepower ratio. In addition to the lighter weight, there’s as bevy of power-train options that let you decide just how you want to dial in your ride. From a punchy turbo 4 to a ballsy 6.2L V8, you won’t have any problem finding the right horsepower mix to fit your needs.
The monster Z/28 track version and the SS version beef up the offerings with even more oomph and off the line grind and bring even more totally competent driving characteristics. This car is no slacker on the track or in the corners.
Along with the mechanical improvements, the inside of the new Camaro comes with an improved interior featuring oceans of soft touch materials coming together to make a bright, fun cabin that’s comfortable and ergonomic featuring a well thought out dash with a crisp and clear display screen interface.
Stiffer body design for tighter handling
It features a unitized body frame with one and two sided galvanized steel that beefs structural rigidity up 28% making for a much tighter dynamic response in the turns. Transmission options include a standard six-speed with upgrades to a heavy duty six-speed for the 6.2L or an available eight-speed automatic for the 3.6L V6 or 6.2L V8.
MacPherson-type strut front suspension with direct acting stabilizer bar and magnetic ride control (available on SS version) deck out the running gear up front and rear independent five-link suspension with twin-tube shocks combine to give the platform a solid, steady stance. Four-wheel disc brakes with four-channel ABS/TCS technology are all around and there’s enough electronic goodies and gadgets available to keep you smiling for a long, long time.
Plenty of powertrain options, none of them shabby
Three engine selections are available. The entry point is a 2.0L Turbo I4 with 275hp@5600 rpm and 295lb-ft torque@3000rpm, with upgrades to a 3.6L V6 with 335hp@6800rpm and 284lb-ft torque@5300rpm, or the massive a 6.2L V8 with 455hp@6000rpm and 455lb-ft torque@4400 rpm
Two basic transmission flavors are available with a Tremec TR3160 six-speed manual standard in the I4 and V6 or a TR6060 six-speed manual with Active-Rev-Match for the 6.2L. Upping the game to an 8-speed are the Hydra-matic 8L45 8-speed auto available for the 2.0L and 3.6L and the Hydra-matic 8L90 for the 6.2L V8.
It’s simply a great car
It’s pretty easy to see that in 2016 the Chevrolet Camaro comes to the party packed with features and ready to perform. With the available performance and trim packages like the Z/28 or SS version, this car is on track to become a need to own vehicle for any collector or driving enthusiast.
